There’s a feeling in the air and it’s not just the chill of winter or the approach of holiday season. It’s the proponents of play – professional, volunteer, parent, carer, child – rumbling into action, reaching their limits as they see kids suffer the mounting impacts of the ongoing failure of decision makers to prioritise their wellbeing.
London’s children took to the city’s central streets earlier this year to demand the government funds play. As Leicester adventure playgrounds come under threat, the long buried national play strategy was discussed in Parliament. The Commission on Play is collecting evidence from across the country. Challenging times in Islington have brought play workers and politicians together to address the crisis.
