John Lyon’s Charity gives grants for the benefit of children and young people who live in one of nine boroughs comprising its ‘beneficial area’ in north and west London.

In addition to ongoing annual grant giving of £12m, John Lyons Charity has ring-fenced £22m from its endowment to be spent over the next six years to help protect the children and young people (CYP) sector.

To qualify organisations must be a school or charity working with children and young people and operating in Brent, Barnet, Camden, Ealing, Harrow, Hammersmith and Fulham, Kensington and Chelsea, City of Westminster and City of London.

There are a variety of funding streams available including the School Holiday Activity Fund (for awards of up to £4,000), Small Grants (up to £5,000) and a Main Grants fund which is typically £20,000-£30,000 per annum for three years. Applications for Main Grants are considered and approved three times a year in March, June and November.

Check the funder website for details on how to apply.

Sport England has modified its funding streams to help people safely return to play and are targeting the places they’ll have the biggest impact

Its new £21.5m Return to Play Fund has three strands: Small Grants, Community Asset Fund, Active Together Crowdfunding. All three are focused on a safe return to play and narrowing the inequalities gap in sport and physical activity.

If none of these streams fit, organisations are also invited to submit great ideas for consideration – in particular to help the sport and activity sector through the coronavirus crisis.

Check the website for more information on application deadlines and value of grants available.
