Playday

Playday

Playday is the biggest annual play celebration in the country, and in most boroughs is held on the first Wednesday in August. Playday not only gives children and families a great day out, but also highlights some serious messages about play and children.

Each year, thousands of children take part in play celebrations across London and the UK on Playday. These events are organised by local people with support from their local play associations, borough play officers and Play England

In 2004, London Play persuaded the London Mayor to support this campaign by holding a central London event. This event attracted nearly 15,000 children, young people and adults from all over London.

The campaign has a different theme each year to highlight the importance of a particular aspect of play. London Play is on the national steering group which leads on the Playday campaign, and works with the Children & Young People's Unit of the Mayor's Office. The national Playday campaign website has lots of useful ideas, and advice you can receive news updates from them and order posters and publicity materials.
